TENA few months ago, Craft & Vision released an excellent ebook on photography for free. If you haven’t already downloaded and read that one, then I highly recommend checking it out. It’s packed with some great tips from lots of great photographers.

This week, they released another great ebook for free! It’s called TEN and it talks about ten ways you can improve your photography, without buying any gear. It was actually one of the first ebooks they released awhile ago, and it originally sold for $5, but now it’s completely free! [Read more…] about Another Free eBook From Craft & Vision

Free eBook From Craft & Vision

April 15, 2013 by Steve Berardi 9 Comments

Last week, Craft & Vision (founded by David duChemin) released a free eBook with nine excellent articles on how you can improve your photography.

The articles are written by a variety of professional photographers and cover a wide range of topics. And although some of the articles may not specifically apply to nature photography, I’ve always felt you can learn a lot by exploring other types of photography.

Here’s a list of what you’ll learn in this free ebook:

  • Benefits of shooting in manual mode
  • How to recognize good light
  • How to isolate your subject
  • How to balance your flash with ambient light
  • Tips for working with black and white images
  • How to make sharper images
  • Tips for dealing with “bad light”
  • Tips for streamlining your post-processing

All of the articles are written by some really inspirational photographers, so I think you’ll learn a lot from every page of the ebook. One of my favorite things about the book is that at the end of every article there are links to more ebooks that explore that topic in more depth. [Read more…] about Free eBook From Craft & Vision

The Benefit of a Point and Shoot Camera

October 16, 2012 by Steve Berardi 21 Comments

When you first got an SLR camera, you might’ve buried your point and shoot (P&S) camera in a drawer somewhere. But, the point and shoot camera can actually be a very valuable tool in developing your photography skills.

Since they’re so small and lightweight, you can bring them just about anywhere. And, you don’t have to spend a bunch of time setting up your shot.

With an SLR, you might spend up to thirty minutes setting up a tripod, and changing a bunch of settings on your camera. But, the point and shoot is always ready to go–it’s why they’re called “point and shoot” 😉 [Read more…] about The Benefit of a Point and Shoot Camera

In the first chapter of Galen Rowell’s great book, Inner Game of Outdoor Photography, he talks about the three phases of developing creativity. Ever since reading this, I’ve noticed how often it applies to any “creative” hobby I start. I’ve also noticed other people go through these same phases. So, I thought it’d be interesting to share them, and see what other people think.

Anyway, here are the phases that Rowell talked about, and a summary of how I interpreted them: [Read more…] about Three Phases of Developing Creativity
