Now that we’re in the holiday season, you might be thinking about what you can get for your photographer friends or family. Or, maybe you need some ideas for yourself 😉

Learn by Example In The New eBook From Fotozaar

August 20, 2013 by Steve Berardi Leave a Comment

Fotozaar - Volume 2Today I’m happy to announce that the second volume of Fotozaar is now available. It contains twenty incredible photographs from a wide variety of photographers, along with detailed stories about how each image was made.

You may remember hearing about Fotozaar a few months ago, when I released the first volume. It’s a side project I’ve been working on since the beginning of the year, and I’m excited to release another volume.

The idea for this series of ebooks was inspired by my strong belief that one of the best ways to learn something is by example. As Albert Einstein put it, “Learning by example isn’t the best way to learn. It’s the only way to learn.” [Read more…] about Learn by Example In The New eBook From Fotozaar

Learn The Secrets Behind Incredible Photos

June 2, 2013 by Steve Berardi 3 Comments

FotozaarHave you ever seen an incredible photo and wondered: how on earth did the photographer create that image?

Sometimes, if you’re lucky, the photographer will share what settings they used on their camera (such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO).

But, as I’m sure you know, this kind of information only begins to tell the story of how the image was made. What you really want to know is stuff like: how the composition was chosen, what the lighting conditions were like, what kind of special equipment was needed, or what inspired the photographer to create the image.

Unfortunately, photographers rarely share this kind of detailed information.

Well, today I’m super excited to announce a new solution to this problem: [Read more…] about Learn The Secrets Behind Incredible Photos

In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World (Book Review)

January 7, 2013 by Steve Berardi 1 Comment

In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World / Eliot PorterEliot Porter was a famous nature photographer, who gained widespread attention after publishing his great book, In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World, back in 1962. It’s still known as one of the most important nature photography books ever published, but until recently it was out of print.

Luckily, Ammo Books just started publishing this book again, and I was happy to accept a review copy to check out this new edition.

The book is much more than a simple collection of photographs. The photographs are organized by seasons of the year, and each photo is accompanied by a journal entry from Henry David Thoreau. [Read more…] about In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World (Book Review)

Ansel Adams in the National Parks (Book Review)

November 15, 2010 by Steve Berardi 4 Comments

Ansel Adams in the National ParksAnsel Adams doesn’t need an introduction. Even non-photographers know about his awesomeness. He wasn’t just a master at making amazing images though–he also played a very large role in the preservation of the American wilderness.

Well, about a month ago a new book was published with a few hundred of his photographs that were taken in the national parks of the United States. I finally got a chance to look through the book, so I thought I’d share some of my thoughts. [Read more…] about Ansel Adams in the National Parks (Book Review)
