It looks like autumn might be off to an early start here in the northern hemisphere. A popular blog on California fall color has already reported some really impressive colors seen in the Eastern Sierra.
So, now’s the time to start getting ready to capture all of those amazing colors! Here are a few great tutorials that will help:
Photographing Fall Color – by Ron Bigelow
When I first got into photography, I remember reading through all of Ron Bigelow’s excellent articles. Those articles taught me a lot of what I know about photography, so I thought I’d share his article on photographing fall color. Be sure to check out his other stuff too though.
Fall Foliage Photography Tips – by Bob Atkins
Bob Atkins is another favorite writer/photographer of mine. He’s got some great tips here on post-processing fall foliage photos, and the use of different white balance settings.
Fall Reflections: Adding Water to Your Scene – by Arnab Banerjee
This is a great article from Outdoor Photographer Magazine, that talks about how you can photograph water reflections of fall color.
12 Ways to Capture the Colors of Fall – by Peter West Carey
If you need some inspiration for how to capture those brilliant colors, then this great article by Peter West Carey might help give you some ideas. He covers some of the classic shots (like trails and winding roads), but also has some fresh ideas that you don’t see very often (like frosty leaves).
How To Find Good Locations For Fall Color
This is a post I wrote about how to use Flickr to help you scout out good locations for fall color. Flickr has a powerful search tool that allows you to search by date range, so it’s great for finding out what the trees look like at a certain location before you actually go there.

Don’t know if it was discusses in the links you forwarded Steve, but unless shooting landscapes, it is best to photograph Fall leaves in the shade or on a cloudy day for better colour saturation and eliminate ‘black’ shadows.
