How to get this photo of Lake Tahoe

The photo above was taken at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe (Nevada). This area is known for those large rounded rocks that seem to have just been thrown onto the lake. It’s a wonderful place to watch the sunset because you’ll see some beautiful reflections on the the torquise water of Lake Tahoe.

Tips for composing waterfall photos

Waterfalls are one of my favorite things to photograph. They’re so simple, yet so beautiful. It’s usually the immense contrast that attracts me to a waterfall–the color of the white water contrasting with dark rocks and green moss. Together, they create such a pleasing sight!

How to get this photo – Oregon Coast

This photo is from the Oregon coast, at a state park about an hour north of Bandon.

Oregon has some really hard sand, so there’s always a thin layer of ocean water residing on top of it. This creates some really amazing reflections of the sunset, as pictured in this photo. The blue you see on the top of the photo is an ocean wave coming in.

How to get this photo from the Mojave Desert

This photo was taken at Joshua Tree National Park, which is in the Mojave Desert of the Southwestern United States.

I think the photo is unique for a couple reasons:

  • Color saturation (those rocks look brown most of the time)
  • It’s a single exposure (I didn’t capture the moon in a separate exposure)
